LaHari Photography is now almost 7 years old, and during this time of exclusively doing ballroom photography, I have never had to deal with a situation similar to what happened while I was at Paragon Open.
It was my 1st time at this competition but I was well aware of it’s high profile nature. I had hired a 2nd photographer and 2 people to assist me at the Booth, for organizing photos and sales. I did travel with iPads for preview and purchase at the competition. I also travelled with back ups to my laptop and my camera and lenses. What I did not prepare for, is not having 2 of the employees I hired. The 2nd shooter did not show up and 1 of the booth associates fell sick with a viral infection.
I made 2 executive decisions – To rope in the person hired primarily for sales to work on screening and organizing photos & to cancel preview and purchase. Plan was to collect email IDs and send out link to proofs in 3 days from end of the competition. From an initial glance, it seemed like the photos were getting done as per plan. However, as I did a deep dive after the event, I noticed significant errors and mix-ups with the data. I estimated 3 days max. to personally fix the situation and email you. But I soon realized it was going to take much longer.
I did respond to the messages initially received. However, the amount of messages got to a point where it would take a couple hours every day just to email back and explain the exact same thing. I chose to use all of my time, to work straight through for as many days as needed, just so I can organize the photos correctly before sending you the proofs.
I am so sorry that my lack of response caused annoyance and frustration to many of you. I hope you can give me the opportunity to make it up to you. I would love nothing more than to create great photos for you from the dance floor!!!
I know now that I need to have back ups on stand by for the human component of my business. Am on it, so I can make sure this situation never repeats itself.
